A man in Jersey has accounted for what he believes to be a spiking at a nightclub on social media.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, said he was taken to hospital and had to be put on oxygen after accepting a piece of gum from a stranger.

He recalled the incident on Friday, 30 August on a Jersey Facebook group.

The anonymous poster says ‘it tasted like chewing gum at first’ and then there was an ‘absolutely, intense bitterness’, which he believes was a ‘telltale sign’ it was a drug.

It is understood this is the first time Jersey Police are investigating an incident of this sort.

The force said:

“If you are out with friends, stick together and be aware of your surroundings and make sure you have planned your journey home.

“If you do suspect you may have been given a substance and start to feel strange or ill, then seek help from a friend or a member of staff where you are, and go to the hospital.

“Report the incident to the police, and remember if it is an emergency, then always call 999.”
